A non-commercial project
This is a reference site, not a business. It sells nothing, carries no advertising, takes no sponsorship and has no affiliate links. Nobody pays to be listed in a comparison, and no result is weighted towards a partner, because there are no partners.
It is worth saying plainly because it explains the things this site does that a commercial one would not: telling you when an official source is the better answer, linking straight to it, and admitting where a figure is contractual rather than published instead of inventing a plausible default.
There is no company behind it and no registered entity — it is maintained by one person, and the email address above reaches them.
Why it exists
Cross-border selling means repeating the same handful of calculations, with the inputs scattered across twenty-seven tax authorities, a dozen marketplaces and a great many PDFs. None of it is difficult. All of it is tedious, and small mistakes compound quietly — a margin calculated on a gross price, a duty rate applied before freight, a commission assumed to be charged on the net amount.
Every tool here shows the formula behind its result, so you can check the answer rather than trust it.
How the numbers are maintained
Rates and thresholds live in a single dated dataset rather than being retyped into each page. Every page that depends on official figures carries the date they were last verified and links to the source — usually the European Commission or a national authority.
Rates change more often than people expect. Several member states have moved their standard VAT rate since 2024. A calculator quietly using last year’s number is worse than no calculator at all, so when a figure cannot be verified it is marked as indicative and the tool asks you to enter your own.
What we deliberately do not do
- We do not pretend to replace official sources. The VAT number tool checks the structure of a number, not whether it is registered — only VIES can do that, and we link to it.
- We do not invent precision. Where a figure is contractual rather than published — carrier divisors, marketplace fee tiers — the tool says so and lets you enter yours.
- We do not give advice. These are reference calculations. Your circumstances change the answer, and a qualified adviser is worth the fee.
Corrections
If a figure no longer matches its official source, or a formula is wrong, please say so — it gets fixed. Accuracy in this subject matters more than volume of content.
